What is Somia Ring? Identity, voice and gestures for screen-free experiences

Somia™ Ring is the identification, voice and gesture-control ring developed by yeshcube for access to the experiences of the Somia ecosystem without using screens during the session. It links the person to their profile, transmits actions to compatible products and includes a microphone for speaking. This gesture and voice control ring for screen-free experiences is intended for booths that integrate Somia, for Somia One and for VVAVVE™. It is at the ideation stage, with no functional prototype, industrial design, battery life, price or commercial release date.
The ERL scale (Evidence Readiness Level) measures the evidence maturity of a solution across six levels, from the initial hypothesis (ERL-0) to consolidated impact (ERL-5).
The problem: identity and control across shared devices
Somia experiences take place in personal products and in spaces used by several people. Each access calls for identifying the authorized profile, applying its permissions and letting the session be governed without typing credentials into a shared screen.
Four concrete difficulties follow from that. The first is holding the person’s identity across devices with different functions. The second is carrying out basic actions while sight is occupied or the experience is designed to reduce visual interaction. The third is capturing voice when the main product has no microphone or sits far away. The fourth is closing the session and withdrawing access to the profile once the use ends.
The design principle that answers all four is a credential worn on the body that brings together identification, gestures and voice, shares only what each device needs and confirms every action with an understandable signal.
Design requirements
Five requirements follow from that problem, and they govern the design of Somia Ring:
- Personal identification: each session is linked to an authorized profile without exposing credentials through a shared interface.
- Consistent gesture control: the essential actions use a small repertoire and produce the same result across compatible devices.
- Intentional voice capture: the microphone is activated through an understandable mechanism and communicates when audio is being transmitted.
- Revocable security: loss or use by someone else is blocked without leaving access to the history or the preferences.
- Screen-free continuity: the person starts, governs and closes the experience without consulting a phone while it lasts.
Architecture: the credential and the Somia core
Somia’s modular character separates what the core provides from what each product resolves. In that division, Somia Ring is the physical identity and interaction layer: recognition of the device, gesture detection, voice capture, confirmation of the action and communication with the product in use.
The destination product carries the experience: a booth provides the space and the sound, Somia One its home voice interface and VVAVVE its personal listening format. The ring transmits the identity and the actions permitted in each context.
The core provides the experience orchestration, the content, the safety rules and the data governance. Each integration asks only for what its function needs, and detecting the ring does not by itself grant access to a sensitive action.
How a session works
The session begins when a compatible device detects the ring and asks for a confirmation before linking the profile. Once identification is done, the product retrieves only the permissions and preferences it needs.
The person starts the experience with a gesture or a spoken request. The intended repertoire covers confirming, pausing, continuing, closing, activating the microphone and muting it. The ring’s microphone allows speaking to Somia from close by, which resolves products without capture of their own and situations where the main microphone does not give a sufficient signal.
Every action returns a perceptible confirmation, either from the main product or from the ring itself. At the end, the product closes the session, unlinks the profile and withdraws temporary access to personal information; history and progress synchronize where there is consent and the integration allows it.
Data and privacy
The ring identifies the person and transmits only the information the authorized experience needs. It takes part in identification, access, voice, gestures and session continuity, and the architecture documents what lives on the device, what is retrieved from connected services and what each product receives.
Personalization memories depend on voluntary activation, including when the experience runs on a product without a screen.
Processing is governed by the GDPR and the Spanish LOPDGDD, with Yeshcube Tech, SL as data controller. The applicable framework is published in the Somia privacy policy and in the AI transparency commitment. What the ring retains on its own account — audio, gesture events, access identifiers and session records, with their retention period and purpose — will be declared with its technical specification.
Artificial intelligence models misread a spoken request, and a sensor mistakes an everyday movement for a command. An uncertain action asks for confirmation or is left unexecuted.
Evidence and validation status
Somia Ring holds level ERL-0, initial hypothesis: the ring format, the personal identification, the gesture control, the microphone and screen-free use during the experience are defined, with no evaluated prototype, sample, test context or measurements of its own.
Still to be determined are the identification technology and the confirmation method, the repertoire of gestures and the sensors that detect them, the microphone architecture and the audio transmission, the haptic feedback, the connectivity and its behavior during a loss of signal, the initial linking and the revocation after loss, what is kept on the ring itself and how it is protected, the industrial design with its sizes and materials, and the battery life and charging system. Each one is published with the specification that settles it.
Level ERL-1 (proof of concept) requires a prototype that allows evaluation of identification, account linking, gesture accuracy, unintended activations, voice capture, latency, action confirmation, secure closure and revocation after loss, together with ergonomics, communications security and compatibility with at least one destination product. It will be declared once that evidence is available.
Commercial transfer is conditioned by the hub’s general rule, which requires at least ERL-3 to transfer any solution.
What it is for and what is left out
Somia Ring is intended to identify the person and to start, govern and close an experience on compatible products: booths that integrate Somia, Somia One and VVAVVE. The ring also provides voice capture when the integration calls for it.
The product gives access to non-clinical support experiences. It does not make diagnoses, does not prescribe treatment and does not replace professional care. Left out of its definition are the payment method, the general access key, the sports monitor, the medical device, the biometric sensor and the location system: the current definition does not include measuring heart rate, sleep, temperature, physical activity or any other physiological variable.
